Flashcard practice

Every word you look up with Sori can become a flashcard, scheduled to come back just before you would forget it.

From highlight to flashcard

Highlight a word on any page, press the plus button in the popup, and pick a deck. The front is the text you highlighted, the back is the translation or definition as it was captured, so the card keeps the meaning the word had in that sentence. Dictionary lookups save the IPA too.

Scheduling with FSRS-5

Reviews run on FSRS-5, the spaced repetition algorithm behind modern Anki. Grade a card Again, Hard, Good or Easy and it reschedules itself: easy cards spread out, forgotten ones come back sooner. What you control:

  • Desired retention, from 70% to 97%
  • Maximum interval, plus daily limits on new cards and reviews
  • Shuffled or ordered review queues
  • An optimizer that fits the algorithm to your own review history

Optimize from my history

Refits the FSRS parameters to your own reviews so predictions match your memory. Needs 400+ reviews, 200 with each a gap of a day minimum. Running it too early gives worse results than the defaults.
