Sori vs Google Translate, DeepL and Mate Translate
All four let you highlight text on a webpage and read it in your own language. Only one of them turns that reading into a deck you actually study. Sori makes every page you visit a source of flashcards: highlight a word, get the definition, and it joins a review schedule built around when you are about to forget it. The others hand you a translation and move on.

Where Sori is genuinely different
The gap is not translation. All four translate highlighted text well enough that you will rarely notice the difference on everyday reading. The gap is that Sori is built for people learning the language, not just getting past it, so a lookup is the start of learning a word rather than the end of needing it.
Your browser becomes the flashcard deck
There is no separate app to fill in and no typing out cards at the end of the day. Press the plus button on a translation and it becomes a flashcard in a deck, with the definition, the word type and the pronunciation already on it, taken from the page where you met the word. Reviews are then scheduled by FSRS-5, the same modern algorithm behind current Anki scheduling, which estimates when each word is about to fall out of memory and shows it to you then. Mate Translate's phrasebook stores words; it does not schedule them. Google Translate and DeepL do not store them at all.
Notes stay on the page where you found them
Pin a word and it stays highlighted on that page. Come back a week later and it is still there, with the meaning a hover away and no new lookup. Nothing else here does this. A phrasebook is a separate list you have to go and visit; a sticky note lives in the context that gave the word meaning.
Two kinds of dictionary, not just translation
Sori can define a word in its own language, which is what you want when you are far enough along to think in it, or give you a full bilingual entry with word type and IPA when you are not. Google Translate and DeepL translate; they do not define.
